Today was such a gorgeously sunny autumn day that I was pleased to have a day off work (mainly to cover school holiday care but who says it means that I can’t indulge my love of gardening at the same time?!?!).
Yesterday we were busy constructing our new no dig veggie bed and then relaxed with a trip to our local garden centre which saw us leave complete with new apricot tree, passionfruit and some herb plants. There would have been more purchases but we had to leave room in the car to collect bags of horse manure on the way home! Oh well, means we’ll have to go back to the garden centre again soon….

I’m trying to follow Jackie French’s rule of planting something every week… so this today I sowed some beetroot, spring onions and some garlic. I also split one of my thyme plants and planted some lavender that I bought at a farmers market on Saturday. Then I mulched, mulched, mulched to my hearts content. I am in love with the smell of sugar cane mulch. Must be time for me to go back to work – a couple of days in the office should sort me out! Well, at the very least it will make me desperate for the weekend to be here again so that I can get out in the garden again!
My other weekend project was turning this big tub of green tomatoes..
into these jars of very yummy green tomato chutney!
I’m not sure I am going to be able to wait the recommended 2 weeks before eating but having made this trusted recipe before I know that it improves with age. Will post the recipe later this week in case anyone else is desperately looking for ways to use green tomatoes…. I have another massive tub of green tomatoes so might try out a different recipe, off to look for one now!
